The Kitchener Panthers Rep Program
What is Rep Baseball?
The Kitchener Panthers Rep program is a travel ball program that allows youth players to play ball at a higher level. As a travel ball program, players suit up in the Panthers uniform and represent Kitchener in play against other city centres. Regular season play sees our Panthers rep teams playing other members of the Inter County Baseball Association (ICBA) such as Waterloo, Guelph, Stratford, Woodstock, etc. As members of the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA), our rep teams also participate in several tournaments throughout the province (or even in the US), as well as ICBA championships, and (if they qualify) OBA Provincial championships.
Kitchener Minor Baseball is proud to have one of the strongest and largest Rep programs in the province. In 2019, we are fielding 24 Rep teams (and 3 Elite teams), all lead by NCCP Certified coaches. There are at least 2 Rep teams at each age group, playing in either Tier 1 (AAA/AA) and Tier 2 (A) of the ICBA. In many age groups, we have a 3rd “development” Rep team that competes at the Tier 2 (A) level. Having development Rep teams ensure that players of every age and skill level have the opportunity to participate in the Panthers rep experience and provides a fantastic pipeline of skilled players for our higher level teams to draw from. See our 2021 Rep Teams and Coaches page for a list of current Panthers rep teams and coaches.
The Rep Season
The Kitchener Panthers Rep Program begins in late January or Early February of each year with our formal off-season training program. Read all about our training program on our Panthers Training page. Our training program helps to prepare our Rep teams to field highly competitive teams once the season begins.
The 20 to 25 game regular season begins in May and runs until early August. Teams generally play 1 home and 1 away game per week and have 1-2 practices per week (at the discretion of the team’s coaches). Playoffs and Championships take place in mid-August to Labour Day Weekend. Weekend tournaments dates and locations vary by team and are scheduled between May 1 and September 1. KMBA respects multi-sport athletes and we do our best to accommodate their schedules where possible.
Who Can Play?
Kitchener Panthers Rep teams are selected each year through tryouts in the fall. The program is open to 8U-18U players who reside in Kitchener, Roseville, Mannheim, Breslau, Maryhill, Plattsville or New Dundee. Those who live outside of this area will need to contact their local association to secure a release before a rep tryout opportunity can be granted with Kitchener Minor Baseball.
Rep tryouts take place each fall, beginning the first week after Labour Day. Dates vary by age group. Tryout details for each year will be posted on our website and social media as they become available.
